Establish Effective Two Way Communication

It’s paramount to have clear communication for a smooth home remodeling project.  Does the remodeler listen? Does he/she answer questions clearly?
Can you reach them whenever you need to? Does he return phone calls or texts promptly? Does he let you know when problems arise and work with you on solving them?
You don’t want to hire someone who is reluctant or unwilling to be in constant communication with you.  We at Cass Remodeling, are open and willing to discuss every aspect of your project with you and field questions or concerns with you whenever they arise.

Make Sure You are Compatible with the Tampa Contractor

You are going to spend a lot of time with the Contractor and their crew, so it’s important to have a good rapport and trust him or her.

Have Specific Goals and Realistic Expectations

Most Tampa Bay homeowners drastically underestimate the complexity involved in any remodeling project.  It’s important to understand that there are alot of factors in play and any unforeseen incidents may happen.  If you go into the remodeling process understanding this, it will help you deal and accept whatever problems the remodel my run into.

Flexibility is the Key

It’s important to have a flexible timeline and budget.  A common recommendation that we give to our Clients is to be prepared to spend up to 10% more than your project’s bid.  Remodeling is a huge interruption of you daily normal life.  Remember to be flexible during the project so that you can handle the unexpected.

Discuss and Agree on How Change Orders Will be Handled

With home remodeling in Tampa Bay, there is always a chance you may want to change materials or other project details during the job.  Even before demolition work starts, make sure that you agree with your remodeler about how these changes will be handled.  It’s imperative that you have changes in writing.  Some common problems that lead to change orders are unforeseen conditions at the job site, when the owner wants to expedite the process and when there are gaps in the original contract.

Agree on a Well Written Contract that Covers All Bases to Protect Yourself

The contract should include a timeline for the project, price and payment schedule, detailed specifications for all products and materials, insurance information, permit information and lien releases.
More often, Tampa Bay homeowners view themselves as passive members of their remodel when they should be one of the most active members of the project.  Clear communication is key which will allow you to understand what work is being done and find mistakes or problems early on.
Ray Diaz our Operations Manager will meet with you before construction begins so you know what to expect and what to check for at every stage in the remodeling process.
